Isabelle Roman and its companion Italic were designed as a pair by a female type designer, and cut and cast for decades by an historic German foundry. This beautiful pair are noted for their graceful weight and delicate line. Both the Roman and Italic are markedly condensed. The face has been a favourite of fine printers and private presses since its emergence. Its quiet dignity makes it perfectly suited to text where a classical grace is called for. Isabelle Italic is a harmonious match with its companion Roman, it mixes perfectly with the Roman as occasional accented words, or stands well alone in the setting of short texts or poetry. Like the Roman, it is quite condensed, though because of its light colour and sharpness of line, it prints beautifully without plugging or packing in on the press. The handling of the starting and finishing strokes is very unusual. This face shows well at even the smallest sizes; however, its charm is more evident at 12 point and larger.
