Molten type lead alloy was heated to specific temperatures. There were very special formulas for type lead alloys. M & H makes good type. But there is a proprietor of a California foundry that believes the best type metal alloy requires lots and lots of air. Air seems to be a big thing with the chap in many other ways also. Admittedly he must have saved a lot of money on postage fees over the years.
He is non too thrifty with his other air either, he apparently has an endless supply. For that air I recommend a New Zealand woollen bib for overspillage of gratuitous ink.
Since air is free I'll bet he wishes he had a long nose!
There was much ado about the metals. Some foundries' claims had no basis in reality. Many foundries tested the metal and not the cast product which warranted the test meaningless to the purchaser.
In other words, you do "not test the ingot" for Brinell hardness, "you test the type". Perhaps this foundry should get some reading material on Johann A Brinell.
