Arthur Baker has been drawing letters for decades and has written over 20 books on the subject. Along with his knowledge of letter forms and historical calligraphic styles and his own custom designed pens and brushes, his style is admired and imitated by many calligraphers and type designers. He currently lives in Andover, Massachusetts.

Mike Beens is a graphic designer specializing in hand lettering and identity design. His first recognition of a love for letters came in 4th grade, "unselfconsciously copying out blackletter capitals with a ballpoint pen." As a college sophomore, it was pointed out that he could make a living arranging type, color, & photos on a page and "that was it." He credits his successful enjoyment of work to the masterful mentoring of Lothar Hoffman, Jerry Campbell and Dick Isbell. Mike has worked in southeast Michigan for 25 years under the name Case Studio, Inc., and taught lettering and typography for fourteen years.

Charles Borges de Oliveira is a lettering artist and a type designer and owner of Borges Lettering. He started his career as an apprentice to a master sign painter and soon began to appreciate letters and layouts. In 2007, he formed Borges lettering, which in addition to offering high quality fonts, is a design studio that offers hand lettering and logos for all forms of advertising. Charles has done custom lettering work for American Greetings, Crystal Geyser and NBC.

Michael Clark is a calligraphic lettering artist who resides in Richmond, Virginia. His work entails creation of logo designs, titling for CD's, Books and magazines as well as font development for both corporations and independent foundries.

Ray Cruz is a graphic artist, consultant and custom lettering designer. For over three decades his diversified skills have allowed him to work with advertising agencies, publishers, package design firms, branding firms and corporate clients. Designing new and custom typefaces is his favorite endeavor. Ray has received over 30 graphic and type design awards from TDC, AIGA, ADC and other art associations. Currently, he is an adjunct professor at FIT and Kean University teaching type design and drawing with Adobe Illustrator. He is a member of the Type Directors Club and other art associations.

James Grieshaber graduated Rochester Institute of Technology (USA) with a BFA in Graphic Design. Since graduation he has worked as a Art Director for a newspaper, Young&Rubicam and Eric Mower and Associates advertising agencies. He has been active in the typographic community for several years now. Grieshaber most recently was on the staff of P22 type foundry and helped establish International House of Fonts. He has been honored with an award of Excellence in Type Design from Association Typographique International (ATypI) for his Gothic Gothic type design. He has now struck out on his own to offer his services to those in typographic need and showcase his typographic vision by starting his own type design studio called Typeco in Rochester, NY.

Patrick Griffin is the co-founder and main nerd of Toronto font development studio Canada Type. He also lectures about type design on the university circuit, serves as an executive on the board of the Type Club of Toronto, and writes the occasional typography-related article for international design magazines. When he's not tangled up in vectors, Patrick likes a good movie, a good book, or a good swing-blues show.

Paul Hunt was born and raised in the rural north of Arizona. Early on he became fascinated with the languages and cultures of peoples at home and abroad. He attended Brigham Young University and received a BA degree in International Studies. Paul's affinity for languages and design converged within the realm of typeface design and he has designed fonts for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic scripts, as well as collaborating with Jim Rimmer on a typeface for Canadian Syllabics. At the time of this publication, Paul is pursuing a MA degree in typeface design from the University of Reading, and is adding Devanagari to the list of exotic scripts for which he has designed type.

Frau Jenson * 1972 Glückstadt a.d. Elbe, Germany.

Frau Jenson moved to Hamburg for university studies after unsatisfying jobs with a pharmacy and then a paper manufacturer. Another year followed with a variety of jobs including the great experience as a scenery assistant at the 'Ohnsorg Theater' in Hamburg. In 1994 she studied Illustration and Communication design at the University of Applied Science in Hamburg. In the typography classes of Jovica Veljovic she 'got infected by the typevirus'. In 1999 she digitized 'Marathon', a hot metal typeface originally designed by Rudolf Koch which received special mention at 'Kurt Christians Fürderpreis'-Contest. Marathon is licensed to the Linotype Library GmbH. 2002 Frau Jenson graduated with the 'Diplom-Designer FH' and since she is working as a freelance graphic designer, collaborating on diverse projects for Linotype and developing her own fonts. Frau Jenson lives and works in Hamburg.

Colin Kahn is a design graduate of both Villa Maria College (AAS) and Daemen College (BFA) (Buffalo NY). After a brief job as a web designer he was hired by P22 type foundry in May 2004. Drawing influence from philosophy and various art and design movements Colin strives to find balance in the eclectic.

Hajime Kawakami was born in 1953 and has been working as a Graphic Designer since 1974. He won the 1990 Morisawa International Typeface Design Competition with an Honorable Mention in the Latin Category.

Of his work, he says: "I am interested in typefaces, especially those of the Latin alphabet. I like their functional and geometric features, together with their simplicity. I would like to live as a designer relating to characters both Japanese and Latin. I am designing these characters, dreaming that my typefaces might be used for a signboard in an unknown town, or used by unknown people in the world."

Kevin Kegler is a Professor of Graphic Design at Daemen College in Amherst, New York. As well, he is a practicing designer and sculptor. Type design has evolved as a natural progression from his broad based approach to visual communication. Kegler has been the principal designer at First Hand Learning, Inc, a company he cofounded, and currently is the owner/director/principal at worknotwork in Buffalo, NY.

Richard Kegler is the founding partner of P22 type foundry, which originated in 1994 as an outgrowth of his Master's thesis project on Marcel Duchamp. Mr. Kegler's background in typography and book arts includes ventures in bookbinding and letterpress printing. However, the historical context and background of type continue to be his greatest interest and shape the evolution of P22.

Gabor Kothay was born July 19th, 1962. He works as a graphic designer and teaches second-form art students. Typeface design was a hobby for many years but it has become an everyday routine with Fontmunksok and Fontana Type Foundry. He lives with his wife and two daughters in a suburb of Szeged, a sunny southern Hungarian town that lies on the banks of the Tisza river.

After graduating with a BFA from the University of Missouri in the early 1980's, Rob Leuschke began working as a lettering artist at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Missouri, learning from the best people in the industry. His talent as a calligrapher and lettering artist eventually brought him back to St. Louis to begin a freelance career. He has since moved on to typographic design. Thomas Lincoln is an award-winning type designer and graphic artist. Following his studies at Portland's Museum Art School and Reed College, as well as New York's School of Visual Arts, his long and illustrious career has spanned both coasts of the US. He worked with and studied under ad pioneers and corporate design experts such as Herb Lubalin, and Milton Glaser. His typeface, Lincoln Gothic, was a winner in VGC's 1965 National Typeface Competition. He also won a Gold Medal, Best of Show, from the Boston Art Director's Club in 1972, and in 1973, was given an Award of Merit from Typomundos Internationale in Paris, France. Thomas resides in Oregon and his leisure time, enjoys fly fishing and has recently turned his artistic ability to sculpture.

Stephen Rapp began studying calligraphy in 1988. What started as a hobby soon became both a passion and a career. Stephen has applied his lettering skills to a wide variety of projects from CD covers to movie sets. He is currently a member of the lettering team at American Greetings where, in addition to other activities, he designs fonts.

Miranda Roth graduated from Daemen College (Buffalo, NY) with a BFA in Graphic Design. Her background in letterpress printing, passion for typography and determination for precision have served her well. Working as a freelance designer, Miranda's journey into typography began in 2012 at P22 type foundry where she is currently an in-house type designer and graphic designer.

Ted Staunton was born in 1942 in Lincoln, England. He served an apprenticeship in the letterpress printing industry before training as a typographic designer at Leicester College of Art. His first complete alphabets were designed at this time, the mid-'60s. In 1970 he emigrated to Canada, and lives in a suburb of Vancouver, on British Columbia's superbly scenic west coast, with his wife and family. Michael graduated with a BFA Drawing & Painting and developed a focus on early 20th century art, architecture, and design, which grew into an interest in typography and type design. He works as a graphic designer in the print, interactive, and broadcast fields, as well as continuing to paint and explore fine arts.

Amondo Szegi is a Hungarian freelance designer, painter and performer. He has previously worked as a newspaper editor, bookshop assistant, electrician and boilerman. Amondo is the co-founder of Fontana Type Foundry and has designed typefaces for six years. He currently lives with his family in Szeged.

Christina Torre was a staff designer with P22 type foundry in the early 2000s. She graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a BA in Communication Design. Christina has designed a variety of fonts and print materials, and has also designed for the web. She worked at the Pushpin Group in NYC and at Dog Eat Dog Advertising, Inc. in Buffalo, NY.

Robby Woodard lives in Oakland, Califrornia.

Of his work, he says: "I'm an experienced freelance illustrator/designer with a background in print and advertising. My artistic interests have always been varied, but if you look closely you will see skill and attention to detail in all my endeavors."

Terry is a typographic designer and semi-professional snow boarder from the Alpine country of Liechtenstein. Inspired by the vast myriad of art history (but primarily Surrealism), Terry sees possibilities in incorporating references from the great masters, both classic and modern into contemporary work.
