I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I
¶ THIS PHOTOGRAPH was taken when Giampa was about 29 years of age. He was to apply for a position as 'Artist in Residence' at Scripps College. Scripps is a women's college in Claremont, California. At that time Giampa felt the college printing studio too small, and himself too young for such a position.
Frederic Goudy designed a private typeface for Scripps College. Guess what it was called? The print shop in the college still has the matrices Goudy made for it. They were still using it too.
It is reported that Sumner Stone may have digitized the type face.

SCRIPPS COLLEGE, MAYBE, IF I WAS OLDER
MUCH, MUCH OLDER, LIKE FOR EXAMPLE, NOW!
¶ HIS MOTHER WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD but this was not for him. The shop was too small and he was not ready for early retirement.
If asked today I would love to share my knowledge with young spirited people. The Scripps College library had a fine book collection that was directed with great purpose.
