A LASTING IMPRESSION

I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I

THE NEW COMPOSING ROOM was a success from the start. I decided to purchase the entire composing department of Rose Cowan & Latta. Their shop was well equipped and printed some pretty tasty work in the old days.

'Up to this point we only had one display caster but now we were given the opportunity of purhasing a Monotype Giant Caster and a complete Monotype composition system from the old Shilvlock & Park typesetting and typefounding in British Columbia.

We needed an operator and Bob Bickeley from Shrewsbury, England by chance came in looking for a job.

Bob and his brother sorted the equipment out, built matrix racks, plumbed and wired the casters and got air to the keyboards and the casters.'

LOCAL PRINTERS PREDICTED DOOM
'HAVEN'T YOU HEARD OF OFFSET?

'When I first moved in the local keepers of print shops laughed and said that letterpress was dead. They said I would never last.

It was not many years and all of them had failed but we were thriving.'
